Scheduling is hard to understand

The ICC World T20 got off to a slow start with some easy games that did not create a ripple or any excitement among the spectators. Scheduling is a crucial aspect of any tournament and while it is understandable that teams with big following will get prime-time games on weekends. The other matches also need to be slotted in a manner that the momentum is kept up. Of course the T20 format is such that some games can simply fizzle out up being one sided.Four days into the tournament and the minnows Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are on their way back home while former champions Pakistan have still to play. If just shows how lop-sided the scheduling is. Pakistan are a mercurial team who have a knack of bringing special flair to the game be it on the field or off it and so not to have them play even a single days of the tournament is hard to understand.Yes, the expenses on the minnows is saved when they go home after making a cursory appearance in the tournament, but it is because they get such limited exposure that they don’t make the progress that they should.

It is not just the match experience, but the opportunity to meet and talk with top international players that will help the minnows who are full of enthusiasm and talk each match seriously unlike some big team players who look at these games as a relaxed tour out of their countries.

Australia played against Ireland who caused an upset or two in the 50-over World Cup last year and the simply battered the Irish into submission with a ruthless display with both bat and ball. Shane Watson was the player of the game with three wickets and a half century to his credit during which he belted the ball a long way.

For the hosts, Sri Lanka who started the tournament, the two Mendises did well with Jeewan batting superbly and Ajantha, who has not quite lived uo to his reputation, bowling some magic deliveries that bamboozled the Zimbabwe batsmen.

It is Shame Watson through who is the CEAT international Cricketer of the week.
