In India, the bride and groom, as well as families have traditionally been at their very best in terms of dress and appearance, as weddings are and opportunity to let the world know where the families stand in the hierarchy of class and power. And since weddings were restricted to being within the community, various communities developed their own traditions and customers related to the wedding and trousseau. While the bold and bright colors dominate the theme of most of the trousseau shopping which is planned months in advance, a mix of bright and pastel dose add a touch of variety and grace to it. Heavy embroidery may be the fashion but well-cut cloths with nice finishes and accessories that accentuate the simple dresses may also be apart of the trousseau as many young brides have to resume their office soon after the wedding. For the office-going women where western wear is more common, it dose make more sense to buy some nicely tailored suits and formal skirts and pants. Good shoes that make the young bride feel comfortable are more important then the clucky heels which may cause sprain in the back or a funny gait. Since newly-weds would be going for their honeymoon where they may have to walk a lot for sight-seeing , it would be just too good if some budget is  allocated to a good pair of walking shoes which would give them many chances for long hand-in-hand walks!

Make-up kits are an integral part of wedding trousseau and they must be picked with lot of care. For a working woman, the light shade may still be the preference but a slightly brighter shade may just add more to the glow of the pink cheeks!

So, what should a part of your trousseau? Simply put, it should be that which is essentially you, is more of your lifestyle and something that you love and not just show off because of its brand and tag value. While all loud colors may give a hint of a playful personality, subdued neutrals would make the newly wed feel very much at ease in new surroundings.

The trousseau is not about an image makeover, it is more about things which you would need in a new home and that they should make you feel comfortable.
