How quickly is too quickly?

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is back at work full time just two weeks right after giving birth to her first child. Period’s life debates the pros and cons.

Way back in July, Marissa Mayer, CEO yahoo, had told fortune journal that her maternity leave would be a few weeks long and “I’ll work all over”. She kept her promise, and after the delivery of her first child on October 1, she comes back to office in just two weeks. Numerous bog posts and debates are raging over the internet on whether Mayer has set the bar too high for modern day working women- whether all bosses- will expect women moms across the world, the debate on the duration of leave post pregnancy is always heated. We asked a few mothers about their views…

Sonali Thakore, VP.E factor entertainment ltd:
“In the business world, there’s mad rush to outwork the other. Hence, more women want to pop the baby and rush back to job. However, for a child, it can get tough, as the child needs to have the mother around. I have serious doubts over new mothers setting unrealistic standards for women. I don’t agree with prominent women who give the impression that maternity leave is something that is not important. Both for the mother and child, this medical leave is important for their well-being. In the end, the option we make will impact our future years.”

Rammed pantal, model:
“I don’t know how women can get back to work within days of getting a baby. I took it easy for three months after both my children were born. A woman’s physique goes through many hormone changes and needs to recover from it. As a young mom, I like to spend time with my children and bond with them. My second child is a year old and I’m particular about how many shows I do in a month. I don’t opt for more than five or six shows. My first concern is to spend time with my children. A small baby needs to be around the mother, as he can communicate best with her. I’d think a six-month break would be ideal to go back to work. Even the mother needs to really feel independent.”

Bhavna Awasthy goes parenting site:
“There is no rule ideal time as to when a mother can go back to do the job. More often than not, need is what defines when a mother leaves her child to go to work. It is believed that once the mother has bonded with the baby and feels assured in hr new role, she is ready to go back to work. Research have shown that infants who are separated from their mothers at an early stage can experience anaclitic depressive disorders which means impairment of an infant’s physical, social, and mental development. The most important variable in the conversion is the alternate care giver. If the mothering figure or an alternative is made available within 1 to 3 months, the infant gets back quickly with no long-term effects.”

VJ mia:
“I took modeling assignments three months after my maternity. I think three months is good enough for a operating mother, the least that she needs to bond with the child, understand the changes in their lives etc. a woman’s body also gets time to recover after the delivery.”
