Any business owner or small business owner knows how essential it is to be responsible. Are you liable to yourself, responsible to your company and, at times, liable to others? It is the similar as simply being accountable and answerable.
You hear this term more and more often it seems. For those of you in business, being self-employed, if you were not responsible to not only yourself but your customers, you would have no company. But today, I want to discuss about how you hold yourself responsible.
Let’s say you have this big task you are working on and you want it to be finish earlier rather than later. You are really responsible to no one but yourself.
When you set up an atmosphere of responsibility for yourself and you follow via with your goals, you have greater fulfillment and you know you are doing your Excellent Work.
But here is the deal. Performing all this by you is not only alone but it is more complicated to keep going. It is easy to stop and guarantee yourself you will do it later. And frequently, later never comes and your venture never gets done.
One of the ways to avoid this is to simply have a responsibility partner. This can make a world of difference in how much you actually do accomplish. The best responsibility associates are the ones that encourage you to move ahead, keep you liable for a time shape you may have set for on your own. This is not about being judgmental, nor do they place blame or judgment. It is hard to just be liable for on your own. As accountable as you may be, it can be a fight.
And this does not just refer to organization. It could be everything as easy as having a responsibility associate to meet at the gym or for a run. I know I am a lot more apt to ‘show up’ if I know someone is waiting around for me.
In your work environment, it is the same. Some people need someone who they check in with every day or a couple times a week, or just one time per week. I guarantee you, if you actually want to get work done in a timely fashion; you require having some way to keep yourself responsible.
Those of you who have known me for some time now, know that I keep a kitchen area timer at my desk. I set it anywhere from 15 – 45 minutes. I know 15 minutes doesn’t seem long. I also know if I am going to look at Facebook, I’d better set that timer at 15 minutes in any other case I can easily be there a really long time just poking around.
As a coach, one of the most essential things I do is hold my clients responsible. It is just one of my jobs as a coach and the liability I have to my clients. It is also why I always have a coach. I need that piece too!
What do you do to hold yourself responsible? Is it working.
