Although much has been written about success or what it means to be efficient, the concept still remains nebulous to most, probably because it means so many different things to different people. The vast majority of people claim that they strive for success, but they remain unclear what it means, and what they need to do if they really wish to be successful. Since I believe that mnemonics are often one of the best and most memorable ways of recalling nearly everything, SUCCESS should also be considered in this manner. S is for each of our need to search inwardly and outwardly; then we must understand both our personal needs as well as others (and how they best work synergistically); we must care deeply about whatever we feel more relevant and/ or important; we must pursue building something both strange and unique; consider being understanding and not simply being supportive when others could use your concern; always remain solution – oriented; and continually maintain your strength of character.
1. How can anyone be successful if he doesn’t truly understand his needs, and can’t objectively search inwardly, analyzing our strengths and weaknesses, effectively using our strengths while nearing and working on improving upon any areas of weakness.
2. Success is not something we seek, but rather that comes about because of what we do, and not simply because we want to be successful. This requires both understanding as well as focusing on need.
3. How can anyone even think about possibly obtaining success unless he cares deeply for others, always focusing value and quality? Unless a personal respects him and the efforts he takes, he can never feel that he truly is a success!
4. Success only comes about when one decides to be him and doing something unique and strange that positively impacts others. Invariably, each of us is able to proceed more successfully, positively, and in a better frame of mind, when we can feel proud that we do something that enhances those around us.
5. When we feel empathy for others, we place ourselves in their shoes, and attempt to view things through their eyes. This intensifies our ability to bond with others and relate better, because the more purpose we can be, the better we can perform. Contrast this to mere sympathy, which is simply going through the motions and feeling sorry for others in a somewhat aloof viewpoint.
6. Do you focus on what you perceive of as the problems, challenges or obstacles, or do you look at how to transform these in a positive and effective manner, and act in a solution – focused approach? Only when we seek ways to do things rather than reasons that we can’t, do we optimize and potentate out actions.
7. As in most things that are done, the most important component is our own strength of character. Do we possess inner strength, persistence, keep working at it when others often give up, and maintain our positive mental attitude?
Success is never either automatic or assured. However, if we proceed by the letters, our chances to succeed, and provide value to humankind and please our self, are truly improved.
