TECHNOLOGY AND HUMAN LIFE

Technology and the technique to which it has given rise have changed human life during the last century than it had been changed since man took to agriculture and the changed that are being brought about by technology continue at an increasing speed. There is no sign of any new stability to be attained in this plateau and the race of technology and scientific developments are growing faster. On the contrary, there is every reason to think that revolutionary possibilities of technology extend beyond the limit, what has so far been realized. Can the human race adjust itself quickly enough to these complex transformations or will it be like former species have done, perish from lack of adaptability? I personally fear because of the advancement in technological development there are many changes in environment which are not desired by human beings. One of the most obvious problems is raw material. This subject has been widely discussed and some governments have taken steps to prevent denudation of soil and to optimize use of raw material. Food being a necessity the problems is bound to receive increasing attention as due to population pressure. By using fertilizers excessively. Food production in the present can be increased at the cost of imbalance in soil fertility in future. The question of raw material is more difficult and complex one. The raw material required at one stage of technique are different from those required at another. It may be that by the time the world’s supply of oil is exhausted atomic power will have taken its place. At present there is a race for uranium and it seems likely that before very long there will be no easily accessible source of uranium. And it is what happens the world would come to depend upon nuclear energy as its main source of power and the result may be devastating. But we cannot get away from the fact that we are living upon the world capital of stored energy and transforming the energy at continually increasing rate into forms in which it can be utilized. Such manner of life can hardly be stable. But sooner or later brings the penalty that lies in wait for those who live on capital.

In starting the technological development are only to make the life better and comfortable but the problems at present moment is that of science warfare. We cannot perhaps go back to bows and arrows but let us at any rate agree with our enemies that if we fight them. Both sides will fight inefficiently from my part I can’t see that either side could be expected to make an agreement not to use modern weapons if once war had broken out.

The new danger resulting from our more organic society calls for certain changes in this kind of character. Many times question arises that what is the social duty of these scientists and researcher’s towards this new world that they have been creating? Every pure man, for science and technology take it granted that advancement of knowledge is desirable but it happens sometimes that when it goes into wrong hands the effects are unexpected. We must retain the belief that scientific knowledge and advancement in technology is one of the glories of man but at the same time we should keep our eyes in the direction of approach so that we can provide a better and safer life to the coming generations.
