Although it is good to try to determine as much as you can on your own, obtaining good advice and counsel on what you should do to make your ambitions come alive will absolutely help speed things up. For instance, when a guy wants to do much better with women, getting guidance from guys who already do well with women can help him see factors that he might not see for a long time if he was to just go it alone.
