Punjabi weddings


Wedding is important for all people but the way in which Punjabi people enjoy or celebrate is great. the preparations start with search for soul mate. Once he/she find match the roka (unofficial engagement ) is organized on which some ritual things like shagun is done. After that both the families congratulates each other.

Now to convert unofficial to official engagement relatives and friends are invited to attend small function of ring ceremony .In ring ceremony both partners put rings in each other hand. Also some jewellery is given to bride by groom’s family and also mehndi is applied on girl’s hand by her sister in law. After ring ceremony date of marriage is fixed. On the day of marriage Punjabi people become very extravagant. huge amount of money is spend on weddings in Punjab.their homes are decorated by lightening and paintings. For getting married boy with his relatives and friends which may be hundreds or even thousands has to go to where party and wedding is fixed. After reaching at the destination both family members meet each other and exchange blankets. Now after taking refreshment both boy and girl with their few important family members go to temple or gurdwaras for taking blessings from god and other people start enjoy dancing or watching performances  of orchestra. The serving of Liquor(alcohol) and other is going on. When the couple return from religious place the shagun ceremony is done in which almost every person present in marriage give money to couple. Then lunch is started after which vidhai of girl is done. Now after getting married couple returned to boys home .Girls started gidha(girl’s Punjabi dance) and boys started bhangra(boys dance) and it may continue till late night.

These are things and events done after which both partners are tied in knot.
