The real worth of a man is known not by what he has, but what he is, and he is not what he thinks himself to be, but what he looks to be. “A man is a bundle of thoughts”. If his good thoughts predominate, he earns the title of ‘A Gentleman”. But if his bad thoughts predominate, he is reputed as a bad person. Happy and noble thoughts make the life of man happy, while miserable and ignoble thoughts ruin it. Thus if we were to know some methods by which we could control our thoughts and entertain only happy thoughts, we could lead a happy life. In fact, control of thoughts is very difficult and long process. But fortunately, it is possible.
There must be a singleness of purpose, without which one can not control his thoughts. For this, on has to find out some worth while aim in life. It motivates him to choose only those thoughts and actions which take him towards his goal and avoid those which related his progress and don’t help him towards his goal achievements.
The most important and practical process to control thoughts is to practice “meditation”. While meditating the mind jumps hither like a monkey. However, whenever the mind wanders involuntarily and aimlessly, it is again and again brought back on the object of meditation and such failings become fewer and fewer with passage of time. With regular practise negative thoughts come under effective control as we know practice makes a man perfect.
