Messi was born in Rosario, Santa Fe Province, to parents Jorge Horácio Messi, a factory steel worker, and Celia María Cuccittini, a part-time cleaner. His paternal family originates from the Italian city of Ancona, from which his ancestor, Angelo Messi, emigrated to Argentina in 1883. He has two older brothers, Rodrigo and Matías, and a sister, María Sol. At the age of five, Messi started playing football for Grandoli, a local club coached by his father Jorge. In 1995, Messi switched to Newell’s Old Boys who were based in his home city Rosario. He became part of a local youth powerhouse that lost only one match in the next four years and became locally known as “The Machine of ’87″, from the year of their birth.
What’s not to like about Messi? He’s respectful, down-to-earth, generally smiling, but most essentially, he’s a amazing footballer. In the past 5 seasons he has scored 271 goals in 268 games for his club F.C. Barcelona, not to discuss plenty of assists and match winning performances. Many claim that because Messi has never won a World Cup he can not be rated among Pelé and Diego Maradona as one of the biggest, but I firmly consider this is a generational thought, as the World Cup is now probably a lesser standard than the UEFA Champions League which Messi has helped Barcelona win a total of 3 times up till now in his profession. Every time Messi actions on to the pitch it seems he is searching to set a new record, and he generally delivers. Messi is already believed of as the best of his creation, with many calling him the best gamer ever at just 25 years old.
